About Tax Simplified

Canadian tax information, built by practitioners — free, accurate, and actually understandable.

Our mission

Tax Simplified was built for Canadians who want to understand their taxes without paying for a consultation every time they have a question. We built the tools, reference tables, and plain-English guides we wished existed — accurate, up to date, and free.

Canadian tax is genuinely complex. The Income Tax Act is one of the longest statutes in the country. CRA's website is authoritative but difficult to navigate. Professional advice is expensive and often out of reach for the question you actually have right now. And the quality of free tax information online varies enormously — from excellent to dangerously wrong.

We exist to bridge that gap. Not to replace your accountant for complex situations, but to make sure that every Canadian can find reliable answers to the questions they face every filing season: What is my marginal tax rate? How much RRSP room do I have? Does my side business income change what I owe? What happens if I miss the deadline?

Why we built this

The problem with Canadian tax information online is not that it doesn't exist — it's that you can't trust it. Most articles are written to rank in search engines, not to be accurate. Rates get copied without being checked. Dollar limits stay at last year's numbers. Nuances get dropped to keep articles short. The result is a lot of confident-sounding content that will steer a Canadian wrong.

CRA.ca is the authoritative source — but it's built for administrators, not for taxpayers trying to understand their situation quickly. The Income Tax Act is publicly available — but reading it without a law or accounting degree is a frustrating experience for most people.

We bridge that gap by having practising professionals write the content, and by maintaining a strict policy of tracing every figure back to legislation or an official CRA publication. When CRA announces the TFSA limit for the new year, we update every affected article within 24 hours. When Parliament enacts a budget measure, we update the articles that cover it and note the change clearly.

We make money through advertising and eventually through value-added professional services — not by selling your data, not by burying useful information behind paywalls, and not by writing content designed to generate referral fees.

How our content is made

Written by practitioners

Every article is written by an active CPA, tax lawyer, or licensed financial professional. No anonymous content. No generative AI.

Reviewed before publication

Each piece is reviewed by a second licensed professional before it goes live. If the fact-checker can't verify a claim, it doesn't publish.

Updated when rules change

CRA announcements, federal budgets, and provincial updates are tracked. Affected articles are updated within 24–48 hours of a relevant change.

Read our full editorial standards and fact-checking policy for the detailed sourcing rules we apply to every piece of content.

Our contributor network

Tax Simplified's content is written by a network of practising Canadian tax professionals spread across the country, covering federal and every provincial tax system. Here are a few of our featured contributors.

Our promise to readers

Every number is sourced

We trace every rate, limit, and deadline to the Income Tax Act, CRA publication, or provincial legislation. If we can't source it, we don't publish it.

We update within 24 hours

When CRA announces a new TFSA limit, RRSP room, or CPP rate, we update all affected content the same day — or the next business day at the latest.

No paywalls

Our guides, calculators, and reference tables are free. We make money through advertising and professional service introductions — never by locking content.

We are not your tax advisor

Our content is educational. Complex situations need professional advice. We make it easy to find a licensed CPA near you.
