About Sarah

Sarah Chen is a CPA, CA and Master of Taxation graduate from the University of Waterloo who has spent over 14 years advising mid-market businesses and high-net-worth families on complex Canadian and cross-border tax matters. She began her career at a Big Four firm in Toronto, where she built her technical foundation in corporate reorganizations, estate freezes, and section 85 rollovers. After a decade in public practice, Sarah founded Chen & Associates Professional Corporation to provide partner-level attention to owner-managed businesses undergoing succession planning or cross-border expansion. Her cross-border practice focuses on Canadians with US investment accounts, Canadians working in the United States, and US residents earning Canadian-source income, covering FBAR, FATCA, Treaty elections, and departure tax. Sarah has written extensively on the Principal Residence Exemption, TOSI (Tax on Split Income), and the Lifetime Capital Gains Exemption. She serves on the CPA Ontario editorial advisory panel and has presented at the Canadian Tax Foundation annual conference three times. Outside her practice, Sarah mentors CPA candidates and volunteers with a Toronto-based financial literacy non-profit.
