Angela Kowalski

Angela Kowalski grew up on a mixed grain and cattle operation near Humboldt, Saskatchewan, and her lived experience on a family farm informs every aspect of her accounting practice. After earning her CA designation and spending several years at a regional firm in Saskatoon, she founded Prairie Ag Tax Advisory to focus entirely on the complex and rewarding area of agricultural taxation. Her practice serves grain farmers, cattle and hog producers, specialty crop growers, and agribusinesses across Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Angela's command of the Qualified Farm or Fishing Property (QFFP) capital gains exemption is unmatched in the province: she has structured dozens of intergenerational farm transfers using the Section 73 rollover, planned the timing of dispositions to maximize the $1 million QFFP exemption available to each family member, and navigated the complex rules around the definition of "qualified farm property" that catch many farmers off guard. She is also an expert in the federal farm support programs administered by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada: AgriStability (whole-farm margin protection), AgriInvest (savings account program), and the Advance Payments Program. Angela advises clients on electing into or out of the cash method of accounting for farm income, managing inventory valuation elections under Section 28, and the special rules for breeding livestock that are unique to farming. Her SR&ED work in the agricultural space covers precision agriculture technologies, crop trials, and the new plant varieties or animal breeds that some producers develop. She is a member of the Canadian Association of Farm Advisors and presents annually at the Saskatchewan Grain Growers Association conference.
